Lab Operations
Purchase requests will be reviewed by faculty and staff and approved before purchase. We request that class supplies (itemized and/or general supply budget) be submitted before the semester starts to allow time for purchasing and delivery.
We will reach out to you before purchasing if we have any questions.
- Request items to be purchased here.
When considering fabrication requests for machining, 3D printing, plasma cutting, wire EDM, laser cutting, etc, please explore the facilities at the Colab first.
- After exploring those alternatives first, you can request fabrication services here.
Please request equipment for teaching laboratories using this link.
The link above is for capital, non-consumables for a teaching laboratory: at least $2,000 cumulative expense.
All requests will be reviewed by the Course, Curriculum, and Laboratory Improvement committee.

The MEMS Laboratories are a critical part of the undergraduate and graduate experience. Most of the learning occurs outside of class time, when students are able to interact with faculty, technical staff, and fellow students in a collaborative environment.
In order to keep our labs safe, effective, and secure, we ask all students to complete the following agreements at the beginning of every semester:
If you are working in the Wilkinson Garage Labs (rooms 129 and 133) for preauthorized course/project work, please read and complete the following agreement to gain access:
Key card access is reset at the end of each semester and you will have to reapply for access for your new classes.
Note that the institutional laboratory safety manual is a more detailed explanation of how all laboratory spaces should be operated. This manual can be found here.
Note that you will NOT receive a grade for any project-based course unless you have:
- cleaned out the studio space or workbench you and your team were using,
- make plans to either store or remove your physical project,
- confirmed with the technical staff (lab manager, engineer) that your project has been cleared.
Accidents sometimes happen, despite our efforts to avoid them through the dissemination and enforcement of our laboratory policies and safe practices.
When any safety incident occurs, and the situation has been resolved or determined stable, please complete the incident forms found here:
